Who we are
The List is a curated last-minute hospitality staffing service operating in New York City. We connect venues with vetted 1099 contractors for short-notice shifts. When we say “we,” “us,” or “our” in this policy, we mean The List. Reach us at roy@thelist.nyc.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly when you sign up, submit a staffing request, or communicate with us:
- Contact info — name, email, mobile phone number, and (for venues) business address.
- Eligibility info — for talent: work history, role specialties, certifications, government ID for tax documentation via our vendor (DocuSign / PandaDoc); for venues: EIN, primary contact, billing details.
- Operational data — shift bids, responses, no-shows, ratings (used internally by the operator; not shared with talent).
- Technical data — IP address, user agent, and timestamps for consent records and account activity.
How we use it
We use your information to operate the service: match contractors to shifts, send SMS notifications, generate invoices, comply with tax law, and improve the product. We never sell your personal information, and we never sell, share, or transfer your mobile phone number to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
SMS messaging program
This section is required by U.S. carrier rules for A2P 10DLC messaging.
- Opt-in. You opt in to SMS by entering your mobile number on our website (thelist.nyc) and explicitly checking a consent checkbox during signup or request submission. Talent are invited individually by the operator after a vetting interview.
- Message types. Shift offers, winner confirmations, address and floor-contact details, operational follow-ups, and shift-cancellation notices. Operator-sent only; never automated marketing.
- Message frequency. Variable, depending on shift availability and your participation. Typically 1–10 messages per week per recipient.
- Message and data rates may apply. You are responsible for any charges your wireless carrier may impose for sending or receiving messages.
- Opt-out. Reply
STOPto any message to unsubscribe at any time. ReplyHELPfor support, or email roy@thelist.nyc. - No sharing. We do not share your mobile number or SMS opt-in status with third parties for marketing purposes. Numbers are used only by The List to coordinate staffing.
Who we share information with
We share information only as necessary to operate the service:
- Venuessee the name, photo, role, and (after a match) phone number of the contractor they’re placed with.
- Contractors see the venue name, address, shift time, pay, and on-site contact for shifts they accept.
- Service providers process payments, host the application (Vercel), store the database (Neon), send SMS (Twilio), and collect tax documents (DocuSign / PandaDoc). These vendors are bound by their own privacy commitments.
- Legal — when required by law or to enforce our terms.
Data retention
We retain account and SMS consent records for the duration of your relationship with The List and for as long as required by tax and labor regulations (typically seven years for 1099 records). You can request deletion of personal data not subject to a legal retention requirement by emailing roy@thelist.nyc.
Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest for personal information. Tax documents and government IDs are stored with our vendor (not on our servers). We don’t store Social Security Numbers.
